On May 22 2025, the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations and the Consulate General of Pakistan in New York came together to host a remarkable cultural exhibition titled Whispers from Gandhara – Showcase of Gandhara Civilization and Buddhist Heritage of Pakistan.

The event drew an impressive gathering of distinguished diplomats from various UN Missions, officials from the Pakistan Mission and Consulate General, senior U.S. government representatives—including members of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Mayor of New York—as well as prominent figures from the U.S. business sector and the Pakistani-American community.

Central to the exhibition was a collection of 39 rare artifacts from the ancient Gandhara and Indus Valley civilizations. These invaluable pieces, many of which reflect the region’s rich Buddhist heritage, were recovered and successfully repatriated to Pakistan thanks to the diligent efforts of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Antiquities Trafficking Unit. The exhibition served as a powerful reminder of Pakistan’s deep-rooted cultural history and the importance of international collaboration in preserving and celebrating shared human heritage.

To end the evening a transcendental Sufi performance by renowned singer, Ali Sethi capped off the event.
